A very fine and rare Japanese carved wood skull box, made during the Meiji period (1867-1912), featuring a carved wooden snake intertwined in the skull and a toad that doubles as a lid finial. This rare and fabulous piece is a great example of the quality of woodwork happening in Japan during this period.
