A very fine and rare group of Japanese carved wood skull boxes, made during the Meiji period (1867-1912), each features a carved wooden snake intertwined in the skull and a toad that doubles as a lid finial. This rare and fabulous group is a great example of the quality of woodwork happening in Japan during this period.
