Folk Art Whaling Cane, 19th Century

Mantiques Modern

A very fine and rare carved whaling cane from a single piece of wood. A figural 'leg' handle compliments the ferrule (point of cane) in the form of a whaling harpoon. The body consists of a pair of intertwined serpents, beautifully coiled around the shaft. This is a fantastic example of the whaling canes coming out of the east coast during the 19th century.
